If you already have a good antivirus software installed, then make sure you keep updating its virus signature files (updates) regularly (at least once every week).

Pop-up blockers will not allow any pop-ups or browser windows to be opened as child windows to the existing browser window. Also you can modify those pop-up blocker's security options/settings to allow pop-ups from a trusted site.
