1>Each alphabet stands for one digit in the following multiplication. T H I S x I S --------- X F X X X X U X ------------ X X N X X ------------ What is the maximum value T can take? ![]() 2>Albert and Fernandes have two leg swimming race. Both start from opposite ends of the pool. On the first leg, the boys pass each other at 18 m from the deep end of the pool. During the second leg they pass at 10 m from the shallow end of the pool. Both go at constant speed but one of them is faster. Each boy rests for 4 seconds at the end of the first leg. What is the length of the pool? 3>A person needs 6 steps to cover a distance of one slab. If he increases his foot length(step length) by 3 inches he needs only 5 steps to cover the slabs length. What is the lengthof the each slab. 4>A Man is sitting in the last coach of train could not find a seat, so he starts walking to the front coach ,he walks for 5 min and reaches front coach. Not finding a seat he walks back to last coach and when he reaches there, train had completed 5 miles. What is the speed ofthe train. 5>Two boats start from opposite banks of river perpendicular to the shore. One is faster then the other. They meet at 720 yards from one of the ends. After reaching opposite ends they rest for 10mins each. After that they start back. This time on the return journey they meet at 400yards from the other end of the river. Calculate the width of the river. plzz help me to solve these questions...if possible plzz tell me the approach to solve them.... |

2>Albert and Fernandes have two leg swimming race. What is the length of the pool?
let the speed of the one who starts from shallow end be v1... let the speed of the other be v2 both of them meet at 18m from deep end. if l is the length of the pool, then the first one travelled (l-18)m with speed v1. therefore, time taken, t1 = (l-18)/v1 -----------------(i) the other one travelled 18m with speed v2. therefore, time taken, t2 = 18/v2 ---------------------(ii) since they meet at this point, so time taken is equal, => (l-18)/v1 = 18/v2 or, v1/v2 = (l-18)/18 ------------------(iii) the first one, traveles 18m with speed v1 to reach the deep end, rests for 4 sec, travels (l-10)m with speed v1, where he again meets the other person... time taken by him to travel this dist is, t3 = (18/v1) + 4 + ((l-10)/v1) -----------(iv) now, the other one, traveles (l-18)m with speed v2 to reach the shallow end, rests for 4 sec, travels 10m with speed v2, where he again meets the other person... time taken by him to travel this dist is, t4 = (l-18/v2) + 4 + (10/v1) -------------(v) since they meet, t3 and t4 are equal.... therefore, from eq (iv) and (v), (18/v1) + 4 + ((l-10)/v1) = (l-18/v2) + 4 + (10/v1) simplifying, we get, v1/v2 = (l+8)/(l-8) putting the value of v1/v2 from eq (iii), we get, (l-18)/18 = (l+8)/(l-8) or, l pow 2 = 44l => l=0 or l=44 hence, length of pool is 44m

let initially his step length is x inches... he can cover one slab in 6 steps.. so, length of salb = 6x now step length = x+3 inches he covers in 5 steps... so, length of slab = 5(x+3) = 5x + 15 length of slab remains same, so, 6x = 5x + 15 x = 15 inches
