Hi all
I want some guidance from you all. Currently I am working as Desktop Support Enggineer in Windows. But the job is too hectic and I am just fed up. Earlier, for one and a half year I had worked on Linux and Information Security. I just changed the job for the sake of company name and Salary. But I think I took the wrong decision. Now I want to change the job. But don't know what to do as I don't want to pursue my career in windows. So please guide me should I go for software (I will have to start from the basics)which is good for me as I am a girl in the long run or back to linux and information security. Please guide me as I am in great delimna Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............................. Thanks in advance Simardeep Kaur |

Re: What should I go for (Linux or Software)
hi,
first of, i does not matter if u are a boy / girl if u want a job in it industry ( atleast knowledge-wise or qualification-wise ). What is ur qualification ? ( MCA, B.tech, B.E... etc..) second. u say u worked on linux for a year and half. And by Information Security what do u mean ( plz b a little more specific ). There is a lot of scope for Linux Engineers and Information Security Professionals. U can go back to Linux and Security, but now-a-days industry wants a certified Linux Engineer ( RHCE certification, is required ), But since u say u hav experience, u hav a chance. If u have a software background..u can go for company that deals with Open-Source Services. But i am concerned abt the gap..mayb u need to start preparing for RHCE, but no worries whatsoever...so relax and think with a clam brain

Re: What should I go for (Linux or Software)
no probs in going bak to linux .. just make sure that u choose a company that does not insist on Linux certifications ( in case u want to rely on ur experience and u do not wish to take up RHCE )...start applying..dont leave the current job untill u get a job offer from another company ( i know u r really really uncomfortable in the current company...but hang on ).
u said u have experience in Info Security as well...so how many months or years experience do u have in this area ??

Re: What should I go for (Linux or Software)
hmm...i do not no who u are asking this question..but if it is concerned i belong to Networking Domain ( unemployed by choice, actually preparing for CCNA ). Will shift to Network and Systems Security ( SSCP / CISSP ) then graduate to Informations Systems Audit ( CISA ) and later Information Systems Manager ( CISM ) and hopefully i will get to play around in Computer Forensics ( this wud take me helluva time )..but Patience + Hard work + generous amounts of Fun = you no what.
u dont have to worry, now u have choices available just keep a k0ol head and play ur best card. All the best ( Still have any doubts, no probs, feel free to ask ). Cheerez mate. oh and one more thing...dont blame urself for ur current situation. If we dont make mistakes or wrong choices ( *conditions apply ;-) ) we ll never learn. In fact it is good that u made a "RIGHT" wrong choice, u atlest got to know of ur limitations and more importantly, ur STRENGTRH.
