Dilemma on choosing the career as a System side or Software side

I am a Engg. Graduate in computer science with good academic score of 75%. I am currently holding two international certifications RedHat certified engineer(RHCE) & CCNA Cisco certified network Assoicate) and also many online certs. I am quite comfortable with my communication skills and core technical skills. I have planned to take my career in the system administration and networking side. My area of interests are in the field of networking and security. I have posted my resumes to lot of companies, but no response from that side. Most people says that choosing career option on the software side is the Better rather than taking on the system side because of salary concerns.

What can I do now?

Can I move towards the consultancy? (Or) can I shift my goal towards the software side?

What about the selection process for a fresh network engineer?

Is there is any cost of registering our name in consultancy companies especially in Chennai and Bangalore?

Kindly mention me what are the companies that recruits fresh network engineers.

How could I know that it is a good consultancy or a black listed one?

Is there is any job sites or forums or discussion groups for CCNA, RHCE jobs for fresh engineers?

What is the pay scale for fresh network engineer?

What is the scope of network engineer as a career in future?

Kindly guide how to get jobs particularly in this field? What are the skills needed to shine in this field.

Re: Dilemma on choosing the career as a System side or Software side

What can I do now?

In my opinion you better stick to networking or security field only because you have already did few good certifications. It seems your profile is pretty good . Kindly go through this link to improve response to your resume

i do not get any response

Can I move towards the consultancy? (Or) can I shift my goal towards the software side?

Better to be in the same field. Good network administrators & Security professionals makes 3 times better salary than developers. Its true.

What about the selection process for a fresh network engineer?

It depends on company to company. If you got selected in one good company because your credentials on networking they will hire you under networking only.

Usually MNC’s hire fresher & they will train them according to their needs. (Depends on client & project)

Is there is any cost of registering our name in consultancy companies especially in Chennai and Bangalore?

That depends on consultancy to consultancy. Few are really genuine few are fake. Kindly check their reputation before paying few bucks to them.

Kindly mention me what are the companies that recruits fresh network engineers.

I don’t have much idea. But there are plenty keep searching..

How could I know that it is a good consultancy or a black listed one?

Kindly check their reputation & search on the web about them. Ask your friends about that consultancy.

Is there is any job sites or forums or discussion groups for CCNA, RHCE jobs for fresh engineers?

Usually you can find any kind of requirement in Naukri.com , monsterindia.com , timesjobs.com & other yahoo job groups. Do not forget to fallow newspapers for latest job openings.

What is the pay scale for fresh network engineer?

It depends on company. (5k to 20K)

What is the scope of network engineer as a career in future?

It is evergreen. Simultaneously pay focus on security too.

Kindly guide how to get jobs particularly in this field? What are the skills needed to shine in this field.

1: Be good at Linux
2: Learn shell programming
3: learn how to admin remote servers
4: Be good at TCP/IP
5: Learn general security related things
6: Go for CEH & CCSP
7: If you have interest then learn perl scripting.

Best place one the web is google.com search n search.. you can find unlimited stuff through google.

Do not get disappointed, I can easily guess that you have very good credentials to get a job. Have patience in you & believe in yourself. Initially focus on all fresher requirements.. By looking at your profile they will give you work under networkingonly.
