need ur valuable suggestions

hi friends
This is kiranmayi.
i am new to this forum.. this is the first message i am posting. I am a BCA graduate(2002 passed out)from Osmania University and I am working for a small company on Java Platform since 7 months. Right now I am doing my MCA from ICFAI as a part-time program. It takes another 1.5 years for me to complete my MCA.

my work hours are from 2pm to 9pm. There is no much work pressure also. So I am able to concentrate on my MCA preparation also.

The company for which I am working is a very small company and not an MNC. But ,this job is very comfortable for me to maintain my MCA preparation and work simultaneously. That is one advantage for me.

Now I have two options: 1) Work for the company for one year and look for another opportunity. (OR)
2) Stay with the same company till I complete my MCA and then look for change (so that I can have better options with my MCA).

I have one more doubt in my mind and that is.. as I am doing my MCA from Distance Mode, will my profile be considered by good companies or not? I heard from some friends that Distance Education will not be considered by good companies.. Is it true?

Can some one help me by giving me some career suggestions? I will be thankful to them.

Regards,
Kiranmayi

Re: need ur valuable suggestions

hi kiranmai,
u no need to worry at all.
bcoz already u r dng job tht 2 on java....means u r hvng nice real time exp.
so no need to worry abt ur distance education....bcoz it wil add advantage for u.
and bing in tht company or changing to other company it completely depends on u....if u want to be in tht comapny & continue ur studies u can ....or if u want to change then u can....
so with out any doubt u can freely do ur MCA.....it wont be any prob for u as u r hvng real time exp.....
wish u all the best

hi,
as u said that itsconvinient 4 u 2 continue ur studies well while wrkng here ... it wld b better 4 u 2 stay bck in the same cmpny untill u finish ur MCA ....
anyway ur exp here ll have good wtage ....

Re: need ur valuable suggestions

Kiranmayi_p1,

Your salary looks decent enough for now and more over you are very comfortable with current job. That is really COOL about you.

Let me tell you one thing. Whether you are working for an MNC or not is not a real factor in our life. You have to listen to some other things to take decisions. This reasons drive any guy/gal in IT.

How much learning you are gaining?
How will be the future if you stick to this company? (after 1,2 or 5 years... if you stay)
How much we are earning and is it compititive in par with market value?
How will be the future hikes?
Can the company bare you if your salary has to go above 15K (in future, in next 1.5 or 2 years)?
Suppose, even if you are asked to leave after 1 yr, will be able to get another job with in 1 or 2 months with the learning you gain here?

If the answers to most of the above questions is positive, then don't think you are working in MNC or small company. Its time to concentrate on work and studies as well.

But if the answer no for many questions, then you can think of options. Now a days every company is encouraging their employees to go for higher studies. Because they understand the value of education and its importance. So even if you move, there won't be any problem. Even in our team there are people who are doing MCA from ICFAI. They never faced any issues in managing both. It is completely upto you how you manage time. You are the master of your time and no one will manage for you. You have to manage it.

Its true that many companies don't take people who did their course in distance mode. But, 1 yr of exp is equal to 3 yr of studies... so, your exp will carry more value than your studies. So, try to build a solid knowledge base before you come out of your company. But, once you get 3-4 years of experience, companies are not really bothered about your education (true with many companies).

All the best!!!!

Thanks,
Krishna
