Please give me some information about Job consultancies

Hello Friends, I am new to this Forum. I want to know some information about Job consultancies.What is the percentage of getting a job through consultancies.What is their actual role in this? Will they arrange for interviews or just inform us about various jobs available according to our Qualification.I heard it is easy to get jobs through consultancies. Is it really true? How can i find whether some of the consultancies are reliable or not. I am living in chennai.Some of u might have got jobs through consultancies.If possible please share some information.Give me the list of some best consultancies in chennai.Thanks,Vidhya

Even though I don't know any chennai based consultancy specifically, I would like to share my experience and impressions on job consultancies. It may be little helpful for you.

It is true that consultancies play a big role in getting a job. Many of the companies depend on consultancies to get good resumes. But they can't forward resumes what ever they like or what ever they feel good. They will do it only by matching the job spcification. So if your resume don't match the requirement, it is likely that your resume will not be shortlisted for interview or recruitement process.

I got a job through consultacy as a fresher. But the surprising part of it is, I never know where their consultancy is located and never paid even a single rupee. I gave them my resume in a job fair and later they contacted me only through phone. I feel all good/reputed companies do the same. They will not charge anything from us. They will collect money from employer.

Thanks so much Krishna for that information. Now I have one doubt.What is the difference in sending resumes through consultancies and various Job portals. If 2 persons sends their resumes for the same job,with similar kind of qualification any preference will be given to the candidate who comes through a consultancy. I heard that when a person comes through a consultancy the company won't conduct too many preliminary tests for him(like written test and other things) and he will be asked to appear for Interview straightaway. Is that true? Please explain it.Vidhya

if u forward ur resume to consultancies ..they'll take some responsibility it depends on ur resume......if u forward to job portals if the job requirement suits to ur resume then only they'll look into tht.......
some consultancy also conducts some tests,interviews etc....if they'll pass in tht then only the persons'll have some preference in jobs....like directly one technical interview and hr round.....
check companies info & rec section u'll get consultancies mail ids....apply ur resume....
