The pictures are WRONG. The sum of the area of pieces is 32, while the area of the first picture is 32.5 and for the second picture it's 31.5.

seperate the coloured parts first,put the green part as it is.. bring yellow part to base..then yelllow part would shift one step left and one step down..then count the grids on the top of both yellow and green parts..it is equal to the no of grids on the base of red part..so place red part on the top of green n yelllow ones..so clearly we can place the dark green one on the left..there by we get a hole inbetween..n also area n no of grids used in all coloured parts is same in the second one also..

am i right..pls help me out

The red and dark green triangles do not have the same slope.
In the upper figure, the upper boundary has a dip.
In the lower figure, the upper boundary has a bulge.
That accounts for exactly one square of area.

in the first image the area of the rectangle is 15 and in the second figure the area of the rectangle is 16. that is the extra one.
