The Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace every year since 1901. Nobel Prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award. The Sveriges Riksbank established the prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize in 1968. Physiology or Medicine : To Elizabeth H.Blackburn, Carol W. Greider and Jack W. Szostak for discovering how chromosomes protect their ends.


Physics : To Charles K.Kao, Willard S.Boyle and George E. Smith, the father of fiber optics and digital imaging.

Chemistry : To Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas A.Steitz and Ada E.Yonath for uncovering the structure of the ribosome.


Literature - To be announced on Thursday, October 8, 1:00 p.m. CET

Peace - To be announced on Friday, October 9, 11:00 a.m. CET


Economic Sciences : To be announced on Monday, October 12, 1:00 p.m. CET
