linux plays an important role in embedded systems(Digital equipments).And i will update the linux classes everyday.Hope you people join my classes and we shall discuss this opertaing system.
i will post chapterwise.and if am wrong anywhere or information is not sufficient then do post some more information on that particular topic.
I am navie in this field. i would request some of the experts to share their knowledge and post the inforamtion .

Chapter-1:
--linux is the operating system which got inspired from unix opertaing system
-- Linux is also multiuser,multi tasking opertaing system like unix.
--Almost all the programs that are written in unix can be compiled on linux.
--linux does not hold any properitary code but will contain nothing but freely distributed code.(free software i.e software that is free from restrictions,subjected to Gnu General public license).
--Linux is just a kernel.We can obtain the sourse code and install it and
then install anyother software programs to make it complete linu.
--There are vast range of programming languages available for linux like c,c++,perl,pascal,sql,java,python ect.....
--When we log in into linux,we interact with a shell program that runs the program in the same way as windows prompt does..
--there are standard places where the system programs are stored.
/bin :binaries,programs used in booting the system.
/usr/bin:user binaries,standard programs available to users.
/usr/local/bin:local binaries,program specific to an installation.
optional opertaing system components and third party applications are installed in subdirectories of /opt.
--the c compiler is called cc.

applications are usually kept in directories reserved for them.
--applications genrally used for program development are kept in/usr/bin.
--appilcations added by system administartor for specific host or local network are often found in /usr/local/bin or /opt.

Library files:
library files are stored in particular appilcation inorder to reuse them when needed.
so genarally they are stored in/lib or /usr/lib.
a library filename always starts with lib.indicates what library it is.
like
.a for traditional,static lib;
.so for shared libraries.
there are two type of libraries
static and shared..
i will try to explain it in the next post..

i have a doubt in this chapter..
i encounterd a word called"posix".can anyone please explain me the exact meaning of the word in linux.

please give your valuable info if any point is missing in this post.

oh i am sorry i didnt check that..
linux was named after linus torvald who developed linux.and he got inspired from unix.so it is named as linux.
there is nothing sort of definition or it is not any acronym.
hope i cleared you doubt.
