Job Description
The NextWave family of WiMAX digital baseband ASICs is the core of our WiMAX system architecture. NextWave ASICs are designed to accommodate a wide range of device types including mobile handsets, PDAs, mobile PC cards, USB devices, and CPE modems. We are also developing a family of customer-friendly device reference designs, including those for handsets and media players. These reference designs will take full advantage of the innovations built into our WiMAX ASIC products. NextWave Wireless is a public company currently represented in the US Stock Market.

The Embedded Software Engineers will work with a team of Software Developers in our current Chandigarh office and will play an important role in the NextWave Semiconductor organization; the responsibilities will include:
- Design, test, integration, and documentation of device drivers and embedded software/firmware for WiMAX mobile products.
- System and software design and implementation in an embedded C/C++ environment, integrating the software with MAC protocol software, PHY and RF subsystems.
- Working closely with the U.S.-based systems and hardware departments , as well as other software departments to provide the best solution to meet customer needs.
- Relocation to Chandigarh, India. Relocation costs will be covered by NextWave.

Desired Candidate Profile
Skills and Experience:
- 5-10 years of technical experience in the datacom and/or telecom fields.
- BTech/B.E./BSc Eng/MCA is a must; MTech/M.E./MSc Eng is preferred.

Candidates must have experience and strong knowledge in the following areas:
- 5-10 years of technical experience in the datacom and/or telecom fields.
- C/C++ programming and target debugging experience in an embedded environment.
- Real-time Operating Systems & RTOS Kernels, or high level operating systems such as Linux, Windows SmartPhone, or Windows Vista, with an understanding of their principles and the services they provide.
- Experience with device driver development for interfaces such as USB, SPI, or SDIO Experience with Windows Vista is a must.
- Experience with hardware/software integration and bring up. Use of Windows and/or Linux-based development IDEs supporting both host and target application development.
- Full cycle of software development including detailed analysis, design, implementation.

Subject matter expertise in at least one of the following:
- 802.16 MAC or other wireless layer 1 and 2 protocols.
- Design and implementation of efficient embedded software.
- Design and implementation of hardware device drivers.
- Design and implementation of OS and hardware abstraction layers.
- Integration and testing of embedded software/firmware with remote host processors.

It is also beneficial if the successful candidate has the following skills:
- Understanding of UML and OO software development paradigms and popular toolsets.
- Understanding of unit test, code coverage, profiling and optimization approaches and techniques.
- Knowledge and understanding of OFDM systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of digital RF communications and principles - especially in a mobile environment.
- Capable and willing to lead a small team of software/firmware developers.debugging and developer testing.
