Job Description:
As member of project team, develops and sustains Versant's Object Database System for projects with varying degree of complexity and across multiple environments and platforms by performing the following duties :
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement and/or maintain Versant products.
- Undertake ownership of certain modules and offer advice on proper usage.
- Perform timely code reviews of complex modules.
- Resolve complex failures and customer reported issues.
- Understand requirements, propose alternative designs and evaluate feasibility for reasonably complex requirements.
- Track advances in database technologies, standards, operating systems and use these to improve Versant products.
- Offer advice, consult with other groups in the area of databases, systems programming.
- Perform effort estimations for implementing new features as well as fixing customer issues.
- Participate in design reviews.

Desired Candidate Profile:
(a) BE or Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science with 3 to 8 years of relevant experience.
(b) Experience with C and C++ is essential.
(c) Proven experience of designing complex system software and a good understanding of OS concepts.
(d) Experience with systems programming / shell scripting on UNIX flavors or MS-Windows is essential.
(e) Experience in database internals/distributed systems is an added advantage.
(f) Experience with multithreading concepts will be a plus.
(g) Exposure to source code control systems such as Clear Case is desirable.
Additional SKILLS specific to a position
Coverage of one of the following profile sections is essential:
Tool development
(h) Expertise with Core Java possibly in the Eclipse environment, especially RCP, Plugins, and about the Ant build process are essential.
Database system tuning
(i) Expertise with C and C++ is essential.
