Senior Database Administrator – Hyderabad

Position based in Hyderabad, India.

Google is looking for an outstanding database administrator who will play a major role in the development of a cross functional support team. This person will be tasked with supporting databases of varied flavors including Oracle, SQL*Server, MySQL and Netezza.

Responsibilities:

General administration on database systems which includes maintaining data stores, schema objects, security and access privileges, software installation and configuration.
Keep business critical systems up and achieve 99.5%+ availability
Design, implement, maintain and automate the appropriate backup and recovery architectures
Build, design and operate application-specific operational scripts
Interface with application owners to resolve technical and business issues for which databases could be part of the solution.
Optimize performance on database and applications.
Capacity planning exercises to properly identify required hardware, software, database configuration/architecture necessary to support application need
Data Modeling, schema design and review.
Implement monitoring, auditing and alert systems.
Mandatory Requirements:
At least 4 years (cumulative) of database administration work on any of the following databases: MySQL, Oracle or Netezza.
Strong understanding of networking (particularly tcp/ip), security, webservers.
Solid unix system administration fundamentals.
Familiarity writing scripts in one or more of the following languages: Shell, perl, python or PL/SQL.
Knowledgeable with database performance tuning, backup and recovery, system architecture and design as well as high availability concepts.
Ability to develop procedures, processes and conventions to standardize database operations.
Good Attitude, motivated to learn and can pick things up quickly on their own.
Willing to work with global team operating on different time zones.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Desired Skills:
Intermediate programming experience with python.
Experience administering SQL*Server databases and Windows environment.
Experience administering PostGres databases.
Previous experience working within Financial and/or advertising applications and familiar with the intrinsic data model and business processes associated with them.
Proficient at designing and analyzing data structures.
Familiarity with business intelligence systems and managing very large databases (vldbs).
Experience working with Oracle Applications, Workstream or Remedy.
Ability to play system architecture roles.
Other Relevant Skills:
Experience with Microstrategy Administration.
Experience with Netezza appliances.
Experience with Hyperion administration.
Familiar with working in a SOX-compliant environment and how to design/follow procedures as well as write documentation to maintain compliance.
Openness to travel and work from other Google offices.
