It should not be banned.
Reasons:
1:We have so many communities which help for our study purpose for example the students who are writing GRE get more information for their preparation.
2:We can find our frds whom we have seen 10 years back .
3:Get to see some great people ..recently i met one mathematician who helped me a lot in my apt preparation.
4:ITS a site which has been running from so many years .
for unneccesary reasons there is no need to ban .
Yes some are getting problems becoz of that ,if they are concious they will not get.concious in choosing respective frds .
And recently i have read in news paper about this site ,
just they want every body to hide their scraps from others who are not their frds ,by this we can reduce the problem a bit.

why should we ban a good site? there are many other sites are there to ban... orkut is most useful communities which is particularly used for students those who miss there friends, those who lost there mobile phones, etc.. as a final year student i thing orkut is just lik my class room.

We should not ban it...As what asili prasanna told is absolutely correct.Why should we need to see the negative things, as there are lot of useful and positive things through orkut....We can easily catch out friends whom we never met him/her for the past 10 or more years.An excellent knowldege sharing portal in all the fields through lot of communities.Only thing is ,the way which we utilise it is the matter.According to my point of view, orkut is one kind of best media in all aspects.So we should not ban it...

it should be banned because it is missued by many memember by the fake name and they get details of that particulars.

yes it should be banned.... bcoz some of my friends told we r getting info abt GRE.. we r gettin new friends , i got mathematician in orkut who helped me lot.. so on.. if u r gettin info in orkut itself then whz abt google why google and yahoo and MS are fighting each other. i think u could solve this problem right..by telling google itself is waist we are gettin info in orkut. no matter both r of same company introduced sites.. but why they are taking more interest in google search engine even though it is very difficult to do as per i knw as a developer...? why they introduced new type of "search engine"(like typing a word gettin more info on that). and shortly they r introducing language convertion s/w in-built, for people who don't know how to use google(language problem) u can read it in ur local language...but it takes long time bcoz.. the meanin should be matched.. so i vote 4 search engine.. and other two of my friend told we r gettin new friends , i got mathematician in orkut who helped me lot.. so whz i need to say is how many friends u want..200000 or more don't laugh by reading it.. in orkut if ur friends group exceeds thousand u can't add more again u have to create new a/c.. have u checked tht..even if ur friends group exceeds thousand some real friends may miss u..bcoz u can't accept their request..right..and u believe that all my friends are true according to what the info they posted.. in their profile...! absolutely wrong.. all of them are fake just 4 time pass.... as per my knowledge people who as lot of work never see these things..once in a month they will see and reply..k. and if u want any info on GRE or any study material search in google there are many free sites and paid sites, search in forums, blogs even i prefer this.. if u search in orkut also again u have to go for these links..one round...hahaha.. so my conclusion is its good to ban..

i dont think orkut needs to be banned... itz a very easy means to keep in touch wid friends...

i do agree that a lot of people r misusing the site.. but it al depends on how wel u use orkut n choose ur frnds.. if u add only people who u know in person.. itz definitely a safe place to b in... it does help u to b in contact wid ur long lost friends... i found a lot of my school frnds via orkut...
it also helps u to meet people with the same interests... there r a large no. of communities which can help u wid ur studiz...
