Well I think that Group Discussions are a perfect way to judge a host of skills which cannot be evaluated in any written test. Skillslike leadership qualities and responsiveness to other peoples views and judgement, howpeople react and mould themselves into the GD are very important points to be evaluated in a future employee. The companies of today ar fast moving, so changing and moreover adapting to the conditions is quite important. Pressure handling capabilities, publicspeaking qualities as well as modesty and humility and persuasive nature of a personare also put to test during a group disscussion session, which all amount to the total evaluation of the candidate.

Performing well in a GD is definitely a very importantprerequisite for getting a job.The person's rationale judgement and composure in dealing with situations are putto test. How the person goes about interacting with people and how he behaves in a group is also given relevance. The one who talks more and dominates is not selected usually.

1 His Communication skills

2 His ability to work in Team

3 His behaviour to some extent whether he is dominative or whether he simple in accepting things ..

4 Last but not the least persons confidence

bye

i fully agree with sowmya. GD is a very useful way to judge a person's leading qualities, his confidence, his way of dealing problems etc.

but practically all these things are possible only if the group consists of a maximum of 5/6 people. otherwise it becomes an utter chaos. each and everybody shouts more and more louder. may be in this situation, authorities will say, "one shouldtry to control the situation and make it a successful gd. but in reality, whenever onr tries, others become louder. coz in an office it may be possible for a person using his position or the atmosphere of the office, to control such a chaos. but in case of a gd everybody wants to prove himself or herself. So nobody is ready to follow anyone's authority.so in such a chaos it is not at all possible to point out which person is having a leadership quality or who is confident etc. I hv faced this situation while percipating in GDs.

so in a nutshell i want to say that the requirement of GD can't be ignored in a process of recruitment only if the group is a smaller one.

GD as it holds "GROUP DISCUSSION" judges one's capability or fluency in English.Nowadays, all companies need a professional who is good in communication skills, his way of approach, points he undertake etc. So,all companies propose GD and then select the people.

GD signifies:

1.A Person's Communication Skills

2.His ability to manage situations if something is going contradictory to his views.

3.His way of approach to the concepts.

4.His knowledge in the concepts.

5.Technical Facts known to the person

6.His mannerism

7.His behaviour

These can be predicted about a person in a GD.

Based on these the interviewer judges about the capability of the professionals.

HI ,

I think GD is the best way for selecting a candidate in an interview , where a candidate ability is known to the interviewer regarding patience, instinct ideas, the way he tacticals pressure situations...etc,its like selecting a pearl from a set of stones, so i agree with conducting GD's in interviews.

group discussion plays a vital role.It throughs light on the attitude and team spirit of a person.
apart from that interviewer can asses the communication skills of candidate.
can know how he/she will deal witha group why performing a certain task.
