Tips for Technical Interviews

Some interview tips

Every interview is not just a cake walk, but you have to make it yourselves a cake walk

So try to follow these things which i have experienced and could make up this tips

Be confident, on your answers whether you tell a wrong one also, be confident on that.
Write down all the questions which u have not answered in an interview, and find out the answers for them. So that in the next interview you can answer all the questions which are not answered in the previous interview, This should be an ongoing process

Be precise in answering your questions, dont be too elaborate and be general in answering your questions ,dont use too much technical knowledge over there, coz its gives the interviewer a chance to ask more questions on the same topic
Ex:you can answer a question on serialization as "passing an object through a network" . but if you answer the question as "converting object stream to byte stream and passing thru a network, then the interviewer may ask "what is object stream and byte stream" if you are weak in IO Streams then there will be a failure answer.

Eye-eye contact should be there, dont look the other sides, if u look then the interviewer feels that you are less confident

Dont stammer/stutter yourselves, dont be too nervous, after all he is also a person, he'll interview thats it, take it light. If not this company some other company.

In an interview every question depends on your answer for the previous question, you have to expect the next question and give your answer.i,e you have to give your answer in such a way that the interviewer cannot ask more questions or can ask only simple questions that you know in the same topic.

Any more thoughts guyz/gals

Thank You

Re: Tips for Technical Interviews

Hi,
Your tips are certainly good but I have a doubt that how can I answer the questions confidently which I don't know. It is as good as lying to the interviewer. So I think the safest way to say "I don't know" for the questions I can't answer. So that interviewer may feel that candidate is not lying.

Re: Tips for Technical Interviews

Hi Uday,

Sorry for the late response, If the frequency of telling "I don't know" is more in ur interview ,what happens to the interview.

See every interviewer checks whether u r giving an answer or not, simply telling "i dont know" gives a bad impression if the frequency is more. Like let us assume, if he has asked 10 questions and u told "i dont know" more times i.e 6 times, that gives a bad impression. atleast u should give a shot for the question.

Let me know your questions

Re: Tips for Technical Interviews

Uday, you are correct to some extent and Mohan is correct to some extent. When the questions are from the area which you are unaware completely and you can't open your mouth, it is better to accept it frankly. And if it is happening for mostly questions, don't get panic and just remember the tips from Mohan "if not this company, another company". Thats all we can do.

But if you know atleast some thing in the related area, tell him what you know and then accept the fact that you are only to that extent and not an expert in that particular area. In this kind of cases, interviewer will shift to the areas in which you are good at. Some times they may even try to give some tips to answer the question (directly or indirectly). You should be intelligent enough to catch them and respond accordingly.

Mohan, Thanks for the tips.

Thanks,
Krishna
