Hi friends, Iam Jithendra a 2005 pass out from the field of IT.Im going to narrate my real life experience to learn english. ever thought of the importance that English had got till my 2nd year in Engineering. There was a north Indian named Amit near my home. He always used to speak eloquently in English. I and my friends never used to speak to him becoz we were so afraid to utter a word in English and we always had the feeling that if one speaks in English others may ridicule.Even in College the lecturers never used to speak in English. One day I was passing through the street and I saw Amit opposite to me . I was afraid to talk to him and turned my head acting as though I haven't seen him.But he came towards me and in friendly manner asked about the address for a shop (in english).Till that time I havent uttered a single word in English in my life.I told the address to him with a lot of tension. He said Thank you and left. I was very upset with this.I felt that If im afraid of speaking in English before a single person what will be the case where I have to speak before a gathering.I know that English is must to face interviews in future and to succeed one must have good communication skills. All this analysis shooked me with fear. BUT SOME FEAR IS ALWAYS GOOD BECOZ IT SHOWS WHERE U R LAGGING AND MAKES U TO WORK HARD TO ACCOMPLISH THE THING IN WHICH U R LAGGING. THIS IS ABT THE POSITIVE FEAR WHICH IS GOOD. THERE IS ONE MORE FEAR WHICH IS BAD .THIS FEAR MAKES U FEEL AFRAID ,TIMID AND PREVENTS U FROM DOING ANY ACTION.THIS IS ABOUT THE NEGATIVE FEAR WHICH IS DANGEROUS AND BAD. I now feel that at that time I got the positive fear.I went to my home and started pondering on how i should learn speaking in english.I went thru a book in which the moral was "IF U WANT TO LEARN ENGLISH THEN START SPEAKING IN ENGLISH".I was very much inspired by this sentence and decided at that movement itself come what might i should learn English. Then some doubts came to my mind With whom shall I speak in English?Till 5:00 pm I will be in my college only. So, I thought I should speak in English in my college with my friends and lecturers. The next day I greeted my friends in English and asked them about some doubts in the subject in English(faltering English). They were really getting bored to see me speaking in engish. I felt a lot of shyness and uncomfortability to speak like that. But i continued to speak in english. Some of my friends ridiculed me . Some didn't speak to me saying that i was posing before the lecturers and girls by speaking in English. This continued for some days. I was very sad with the happenings. But some thing made me to feel that Im doing the right thing and I should not feel ashamed of it. Then I started to read news paper(Hindu). I couldn't even understand the headlines of that paper as very high frequency sounds were being used.I immediately purchased a Oxford dictionary and started collecting the meanings of difficult words. Gr adually the idea of speaking in english which started with fear started looking very interesting to me. By this time I was in third year.Still the teasings from my friends continued. By this time I had collected almost 4000 words and learnt the meanings of them.I started speaking in English with my lecturers also. There was only a little bit of improvement in my English. But the thing which made me to move forward was that I was no longer afraid of speaking in English. After some days my friends started noticing my struggle and they started speaking in English with me. By this time my name had become popular thru out the college and even some of my lecturers appreciated me for my struggle. Some of my friends who were very weak in English used to ask some tips to me of how to speak in English? I always used to say that if u want to learn english then speak english. My journey continued for almost 3 years and I gradually became confident with my english. All my struggle was rewarded in the Final year project work where every one had to give demo on their project work before the principal,HOD,Staff and students of other departments(ECE,CSE,EEE,MECH).There was a gathering of almost 350 students.I got the chance to give the demo.I took a deep breath and stood on the podium.I was a bit nervous for the first 5 minutes. But I became very comfortable after some time and delivered the demo very skilfully. On that day my H.O.D introduced me to the principal and explained how hard i worked .My principal congratulated me b4 the gathering. That was the day i felt that i hav been honoured for all the struggles. Now I admit that Im reasonably good at english. MORAL : IF U WANT TO LEARN ENGLISH THEN SPEAK ENGLISH COME WHAT MIGHT. Hi Jitendra, I can feel how good you are in English. Really the usage of words is excellent and all the struggle and pain you had taken to reach to this place is appreciative and inspiring for others. Thanks for sharing your experience. Thanks, Krishna Edited by: sk_kireeti

Hai,
Greetings. I read what you had posted in the forum. It was interesting and what you said is true. Unless you speak the language you can not be fluent. once you start speaking in English then slowly you end up speaking a error free language.
