Rann Movie Review:
************* *******************The maverick filmmaker, Ram Gopal Varma strikes again with entirely different story in Rann. He once again teams up with his favorite actor, Amitabh Bachchan. His old friend, Manisha Koirala finds a role after teaming with him nearly six years. The film is produced by Sheetal Vinod Talwar and Madhu Mantena. The music is composed by Amar Mohile and Bapi-Tutul.
The movie tells the story of different individual who have their own ambitions and approach towards it. In the present era, mass media play a key role in the society. Vijay Harshvardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan) is a perfect man of ethics. He owns a news channels named India 24/7. Purab (Ritesh Deshmukh), a young Journalist with lot of ambition to make his career established and be in limelight. Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal) is a power-hungry and dishonest politicians and Naveen Shankalya (Rajat Kapoor) is an over ambitious businessmen. What happens when these honest media baron suddenly lock horns with Mohan Pandey and Naveen Shankalya forms the base for this story.
The movie has too many other characters like Amrish Kakkar (Mohnish Behl) who also owns a news channel and competes with Vijay Harshvardhan. Amrish Kakkar news channel tries to push their channel by convert’s silly and major news into entertainment in order to catch the attention of the audience. He considers every news item is a source of day long entertainment and good money minting method. Nandita Sharma (Gul Panag) is an ad filmmaker, who thinks of herself first and doesn't care about what's happening in the country; the typical youth of today.
The movie has Kannada actor Sudeep who earlier worked with ram gopal verma in the horror flick “Phoonk”. In this film, Sudeep gets the role of Amitabh’s son who has a different concept of running their family run media business. Whether the difference in ideology between the father-son duos works out also forms the main theme of the movie.
The movie is a bold attempt to reveal the way the media and entertainment industry playing the tricks and gimmicks of getting viewers and minting money. Should we believe all that is shown on the television? What is the real fact of the national and regional happening of news? All this are dealt in this film in an understandable manner.
Amitabh Bachchan has lived in the role of the media baron. Paresh Rawal shines in the role of crook minded politician who is ready to go to any extend to be the prime minister of the nation. Ritesh Deshmukh has well utilized his role as he is working for the first time with Ram Gopal Verma’s team. Rajat Kapoor, Mohnish Behl and Gul Panag did their respective characters as expected.
