Windows recovery problem!
Hi all,
I'm facing one of the unique problems recently! I'm running Windows media center 2005 on my HP laptop. Recently i did a PC recovery. Now i have got a problem connecting to internet. I'm unable to update the driver reuired to operated my ADSL External modem as it is flashing this error whenever i try yo update it. "A DSL modem is already installed, please un-install the old one before upgrading the current one". (Some message similar to this is being displayed.) Obviously i wont be able to un-install coz this version of windows(after recovery) behaves like a new installation ! Now i can't und 2 things: 1. Since i did a recovery, my OS shuld be put in back to the stage where there were no softwares installed. 2. If point 1 is true then why my OS is still able to recognize previous driver ?? Fine ... what help i need from u guys is " How do i un-install this current version of modem(or some means of disabling it) so that i can update a fresh copy of driver)" Note: driver is the current version of ADSL modem software Any confusions after reading my query, please do revert back. Please do put in ur sugesstions as am really stuck with this & my work is getting delayed! Thanks all,

Re: Windows recovery problem!
To remove previous instance of modem
1- right click my computer and select properties 2- select hardware tab and then select device manager 3- now in the list chk for the modem entry ( old one shud b present here..) select it and right click , now click Uninstall. now u can reinstall the new drivers. then chk if u can ping the modem. if u can not then chk if the TCP/IP stack is installed properly( since u said u have done a revocery ).. to do this ping 127.0.0.1 ok u do till wat i have said..if it does not work out post bak here, again
