Regarding OCP certification

Hi

I'm in a confusion, can't figure out what OCP papers should I go for 9i or 10g. What is the market in India and Gulf Countries.

Should I go for OCA 9i - 1 papers + OCP 10g - 2papers or

OCA 9i - 2 papers + OCP 10g - 2 papers or

OCP 9i - 4 papers + OCP 10g upgradation or

Just OCP 10g

Pls let me context to both India and Gulf Countries. and also let me know whether just being and OCA can we get a job as a junior DBA

Thanks

Re: Regarding OCP certification

Hi Dangerous,

I am not very conversent with this papers. But, I feel you can go ahead with 2nd option. I feel that is best in both training centers availability and market demand perspective.

Thanks,
Krishna

Re: Regarding OCP certification

Thanks sk for the suggestion. Still one more query to go whether Only OCA is acceptable in DBA job market or we need to go for OCP certification.

I mean could I grab a job firstly with 2 papers of 9i i.e 0CA 9i later after getting a job go for OCP 10g. Or need to go for OCA 9i + OCP 10g and apply as sk suggested 2 be a gud option

Re: Regarding OCP certification

Hi Dangerous,

Initially you can go for OCA. But for a DBA position, you need to be good in pl/sql also. If you are good in it, its enough. OCP certification is not mandatory for DBA (in general). But, surely companies expect you to be good in pl/sql even though not exceptionally good.

Thanks,
Krishna

Re: Regarding OCP certification

Hi,
i will tell u what to do.
first in OCP u have 2 tracks,
one is DBA and the other is Application developer-this is for oracle 9i
DBA has 4 papers and application developer has 3 papers.
First 2 papers are common for both the tracks.
they are sql and pl sql.
once you clear these you will become an OCA(Oracle certified associate).
then application developer module has a 3rd paper called forms and reports and dba has 2 more papers.
Both these modules have equal value in the market but for a dba opportunities as a fresher are less bcos almost all companies need dba s with exp.
but for application developer market is wide open.
But having said all this whatever certification you do,after you join a company they will train you on furthur modules like 10g or 11i.
so this is how it is basically.
ask me if you have any more questions?

3)whether to go for oracle 9i -- OCA , or Oracle 10g --OCA --- for sql, PL/sQL .
how much is the difference between the two...coz 11g has now entered so would 9i OCA be treaed as old??????
4)2 papers ie sql,pl/sql are there even for DBA(if im not wrong) ..so after completing OCA 9i/10g if i give 3rd paper of Oracle ApplicationSoftDevlpr then i'll become
OCP Appl Soft Dev and if i give remaining 2 papers of DBA (ie performance tunning somthing and another one...i m not knowing that fourth paper) then i'll become OCP DBA correct no??? Please tell me is it like that..?

5)
Some institutes like SQLSTAR,NIIT provide these courses eg 232 hrs Devloper/DBA - 312 hrs. They say ..On successful completion of this 232-hour curriculum, one gets a Oracle certificationfrom Oracle Education, and is completely prepared to appear for the internationally recognized Oracle Certified Professional Developer examination conducted by Thomson Prometric.
So is this another certificate(different than OCA/OCP DBA etc) that candidate gets from Oracle Education saying he has completed the course successfully Is it like that??.

6)
If i do OCA 9i then would it be possible to give just remaining 2 papers other than sql,pl/sql in 10g for DBA????

7)what r the Fees for these courses/exams ?
