Wow !!ERP....
Well to begin with ERP is not just a three-letter word.It has the whole business model!!
You just can't ask anyone what ERP is,as it is very vast and ever-growing as per the businesses,strategies and opportunities the companies face in the real-time world.ERP is basically a business solution where you use ERP modules to integrate and optimise your business.The most famous being Oracle and now presently SAP.There are different companies from automobiles,aircrafts,to educational institutions,healthcare,etc.So to better efficiently manage these,different dimensions of businesses require different modules.There are JD Edwards,Cognos,etc in western countries,there is MY-SAP for small enterprises and the list goes on.There are even module for mechanical engineers.So,with expanding businesses and changing trends,different ERP softwares crop up,some stay others improvise and get built up!!!HOpe you got some out of this!!!

there r many resources in ERP like manpower,marketting,production,maintainence,administration,financial,controlling etc..........v r using ERP bcoz there r lots of benifits like maximum applications are predifined, only customizing the application depends the client requirements, less time, reliable,supports integration n so many uses......
as faraz said oracle,seible,peoplesoft,sap r the upcomming fields...........in these SAP n oracle r booming.....n SAP is leading ..........in SAP v r hvng so many modules to improve the business............in the comming future almost all companies will use SAP for business............bcoz its hvng lots of advantages ..............
