Hard disk problem - can any one helpme

hi,

Seagate Hard disk- when the system boots up it hangs up- it comes as blue screen with no data - But when i press F8 - it goes to safe mode screen and once again it hungs up- First i though that something wrong with the hard disk - i formatted the hard and once again installed same windows XP Profession(service pack 2)- it was working fine for one week- once again the problem occured- once the system started it hungs up-it doesnt give any error on the page- its a blank screen - i am sure that hard disk fine- could any tell me what is the problem?

How you are sure that the hard disk is fine ? It seems, there is a problem with hard disk only.

Try below things...

1 : Do low level formatting once, It will zero fill any bad sectors. Low level formatting taks lot of time depending one the storage capacity of the hard disk

2 : Use your hard disk in your friends computer. Have a check whether it is working in his/her comp properly or not. If its not working we are sure that problem is there with hard disk only.

3 : I think Segate comes with 3 year or 5 years warranty period, So you can go for replacing the disk.

It might be problem of the hard disk - I am not sure! - but the strange thing - once i do format it works fine for one week -the next it starts once again.

What is your system configuration? Have you been using XP with SP2 earlier or, is this the first time you are trying to use XP with SP2?

Also try the way RaisingSun suggested. Put the hard disk in your friends system or any other system and check the performance. It will scope down the issue.

thank you for your help,My system configuration is'

Intel chipset motherboard and 1.7 pentium celeron processor - 80 gb hard disk

i checked with different system - in the other system it is working fine- again i checked with the seagate provider - they told that hard disk is working fine.

Enrich,

Looks you are installing XP SP2 for the first time. Is this true? Windows XP SP2 is not comaptible with every motherboard/processor. Else, it could also be that motherbord has some issues.

I think the problem with your RAM . Change the RAM and Check it.
