My OS is windows Xp.How tofix the bad sectors 2. my primary IDEin mother boardcannot sense the hard disk. so i use only the secondary IDE bus.first booting device is IDE-0.But when i start the system it show the message as follows: windows\system32\window\config file is missing or corrupted.insert the windows setup cdrom. the system boots if i try continuously after that there is no problem. i have128mb RAM. My doubt is pbm no 2 occurs since my ram size is very small, and XP takes most of te part for VGA itselfor due to the IDE failure. Pls clear my doubt.I am confused. Priya. Edited by: priya2k6 |

Hi Binny,
You mean to say make the other drive as primary drive rather C: as it has bad sectors? or is it a general recommendation. Thanks, Krishna

priya y dont u try to reinstall ur windows xp ?
All u need to do is boot up insert the Windows XP CD and run setup from My Computer .. Choose Upgrade option and things should be fine. Note: You need to reinstall softwares to work. Data in Drives C,D,E... will not be erased and u wont need to format .. Doing so i think u can even change the Drive where u want to install windows on. Thanks. Ajith

"My doubt is pbm no 2 occurs since my ram size is very small, and XP
takes most of te part for VGA itselfor due to the IDE failure." Windows Xp Happily Runs on 128MB Ram.. no issues with ur RAM .. but as time passes system becomes slow as and when we install new softwares ... i recently upgraded with 256 +128(existing)so its pretty ok now, but 128MB should be fine enough inspite of some space being occupied by Video Card Thanks, Ajith

we cant remove bad sectors from the hard disk. The solution pple usually use is they use Bad sector hard disk as secondary hard disk just to store data. The good condition hard disk is used as primary hard drive

There are some 3rd party softwares which can remove the bad sectors from the hard disk. You can use any of them to do it.
Not sure if Norton Disk Doctor can do it not. Try out once... Also, you can use any of the following free tools at your own risk. http://www.unistal.com/disk_repair.html http://3d2f.com/programs/30-802-disk...ftware-downloa d.shtml Thanks, Krishna

Also if the issue is minor, formatting the disk fully (format c: /X ) will help to certain extent.
Thanks, Krishna

HI Guys, Just forget about the bad sectors...it will not make any difference untill any data is stored on it. Keep the C drive as primary and others as secondary. Start the OS installation..any os , while installing, Change the path to D or E...It will install the Windows and other directories in the specified drive. In C drive only Boot files are installed..So you will nothave any problem..
