Invalid Ms-dos Function

Hi All,

Recently, i formatted my system due to some problems, and i installed it freshly with windows 2000, sp4.

NOW, WHEN IAM TRYING TO COPY SOME FILES FROM CD TO MY HDD, IAM GETTING A PROMPT THAT

"cant copy :invalid Ms-Dos Function"

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS, CAN ANY ONE SOLVE MY PROBLEM ASAP...

Hi Rachana,

I am not sure what could be the solution. But, have you tried to copy the files from DOS?

It seems there is a problem with the CD only. Use the same CD in other Comp and check it out .. if you are geting the same error it nothing but problem is there with CD only. IF not let us know we will check out.

No Krishna, iam just trying to copy in windows mode only

The CD is working fine with other PC's, i checked it thouroughly, even it is not with only one CD, iam getting the prob with all the CD's.iam sure there is a prob with my PC...

Then check it out in DOS mode and also try what Mighty has said. else, change the CD which you are sure is working previously.

Hi Rachana,

Alternatively you can try to reinstall/upgrade your installation. If any dll files were corrupted because of any software installations, it will correct them.

Is ther is any other alternative way rather reinstaling, what could be the prob Krishna, have you r Mighty faced any such problem...even i discussed it with my friends, they r also not sure about it..

HI rachana,

This error occurs when the CD ROM drivers are not properly loaded in the PC. It is a known bug in win2000..But it should be solved by installing SP4 ....In this case I suggest you to disconnect the CD ROM from the PC. Switch on the PC again. Then shutdown...now reconnect the CD ROM to another IDE .Now restart the PC. It will load fresh drivers....ur problem should be resolved....
