It is Quality Assurance. In general terms, QA is Quality Assurance. So the main role of QA in any project is to develop(write) testcases based on SRS/FSR and to test those written TestCases and makesure the developed system reaches the Customer requirements.

Developer writes the code and Tester try to break that code.
Hope this give little idea.
