Rep Power: 4 | Re: What is the difference between smoke testing and sanity testing Smoke Testing: This testing is narrow and deep....i.e we concentrate on particular functionality and try to see that it doesn't break, apart from the positive test cases all the negative test cases are applied to test the stability of the functionality Sanity Testing: This testing is shallow and wider i.e we try to cover each and every functionality but not indepth. This can be defined as the Testability Testing or Tester Acceptance Testing. Sanity testing is done to verify that the application under test is testable i.e free from blockers or showstoppers

Rep Power: 25 | Re: What is the difference between smoke testing and sanity testing Normally when build arrives tester will go for sanity testing. i.e., whether the build is stable enough, all the images/links are opening...... First thing to do, which is all that was asked for in the question, is to run the Test/QA acceptance test, or this may also be referred to as the smoke test and also other names. But the essence of the TAT or the BAT (Build Acceptance Test as we call it) is to install the application to see if it will install properly, then do a few functional tests to see if the application is stable enough to start testing. If it isn't, we reject it.
