FAQ'S
On what basis can we say that a product is thoroughly tested and handed over to customer?
when the product performs its required functions in successful manner If test cases are executed with existing requirements and the requirements are frequently changing, what steps to be taken for the test completion ? You have to edit/update the test cases on a regular basis. As the part of Requirements Management, any changes in the requirements will be added/edited to the SRS. I am assuming that, in reality, you have prepared Test cases from the documentations like SRS, Use Cases etc. So, find out time before or after the execution of test cases (or testing process) to keep the test cases up-to-date, as per the available documents. What is the difference between QA and testing? replicate from earlier threads Test plan: It contains objective, scope, Functionalities to be tested, func not to be tested, suspension criteria, deliverables, schedules. Test strategy: It is a road map which shows how to approach testing, what types of testing should be done at specific area of an application, entry and exit criteria. test design: It gives the structural model of the application to be tested. -A checklist in generally a document with which we do verification task.a simple eg.you have a list of articles to purchase , when you get them , you verify them with your list.At that time that list is your checklist. Who should you hire in a testing group and why? You should hire a person who has good analytical skills, good understanding of testing skills required, an attitude towards quality of the product Testing is an interesting part of software cycle. and it is responsible for providing an quality product to a customer. It involves finding bugs, which is more difficult and challenging. I want to be part of testing group because of this. Black box testing Tests are based on requirements and functionality. Not based on any knowledge of internal design or code. White box testing Tests are based on coverage of code statements, branches, paths, conditions. Based on knowledge of the internal logic of an application's code. Do you support automated testing? Why? Yes i support automation because it simulates user actions. What was a problem you had in your previous assignment (testing if possible)? How did you resolve it? Testing aimed at showing software does not work Why do you want to join our company? I've been aware of your company reputation for some time. You're regarded as an innovator within the industry and beyond. I appreciate that your team's success is due to a number of factors, not least of which is hard work. I'm an excellent team player, I'm a very good problem solver, and I work hard to get the job done. For these reasons, I'm confident I'd be an asset to your group. I hope that my experience shows I'm suitably qualified to fulfill the position. Should we test every possible combination/scenario for a program? Its not mandatory. There are several points to be considered here. Delivery time available, personnel availability, complexity of the application under testing, available resources, budget etc. But we should test cover to the maximum extent satisfying the primary functionalities, which are, must from the customer point of view. What criteria do you use when determining when to automate a test or leave it manual? It depends on the project which we are working. If the project is customizable and used by several clients after small changes to the product. The Time and Budget both are the key factors in determining whether the test goes on Manual or it can be automated. Most challenging situation - Like: carrying out testing with limited resources, limited time and limited effort and uncovering bugs is a very challenging & creative task. Strengths are I'm well motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented team member I’ve got a strong desire to succeed, and I'm always ready and willing to learn new information and skills. And about my weakness, I'm always ready to learn new skills and adapt my methods to become better at what I do. If I become aware of a weakness in my knowledge base or in the way I perform my duties, I do my best to fill that gap whether through formal training, informal training, or directly from my colleagues. What do you plan to become after say 2-5yrs (Ex: QA Manager, Why?) i would like to be a QA engineer. b'coz it's work related to the prevention. this is a most challenging work than the test engineer. Where do you get your expected results? we get expected results from the SRS and Functional Design Documents. if there is no clear documentation we prepared expected results from the 1. Previous similar products. 2. by communicating with the developers 3. by common sense. Who defines quality - customer Have you ever completely tested any part of a product? How? it is not possible to test any product completely. we can test major functionalities of the application which are most visible to user. and critical parts in the product. What are the key challenges of testing? There are 2 main key challenge for a Tester....... 1) If there is not sufficient time to test the application properly.. 2) If there is not sufficient Requirements from which you can get the proper product knowledge.. How do you prioritize testing tasks within a project? We can prioritize testing tasks within a project by determining the risk factor of each and every module on the basis of impact and likelihood and then start testing the module having the highest risk factor. What are all the basic elements in a defect report? defect Id, explanation, Module in which the bug is found, Test case Id, Bug Found by, Priority, Severity, STATUS(IE OPEN OR CLOSED) What is a successful product? A successful product is one which is bug free and is as per the requirements specified by the customer, satisfying all the quality standards and into the market with in the schedule What do you like about QA? QA certainly is more challenging because U R trying to prevent the bugs. What type of metrics would you use? QAM:Quality Assurance Matrix TMM:Test Management Matrix PCM:Process Compatibility Matrix Describe to me what you see as a process. Not a particular process, just the basics of having a proc Process is nothing but to verify the product or project based on requirements. How do you analyze your test results? What metrics do you try to provide? after the execution test cases on the corresponding build or version we get the results. before track down them into the bug tracking tool we have to analyze them to assign the severity. when we assign the severity, try to analyze the problem from the perception of the end user. from the above u can know how severe the problem is . Defect density: total no of defects reported during testing/size of project test effectiveness:t/(t+uat) where t:total no of defect recorded during testing and Uat : total no of defect recorded during use acceptance testing Defect removal efficiency(DRE): (total no of defect removed / total no of defect injected)*100 How do you go about testing a web application? It’s clear that for testing any application, one should be clear about the requirements and specification documents. For testing Web application, the tester should know, what the web application deals with. For Testing Web application, the test cases written should be in two different types, 1) The Test cases related to the Look and Feel of the Web pages and navigation and 2) The test cases related to the functionality of the web application. Make sure, whether the web application is connected to the Database for the inputs. Write Test cases based on the Database and write test cases for the backend testing as well if there is any database. The web application should be tested for the server response time for displaying the web pages, Make sure the web pages under load as well. For load testing, the tools are very much useful for simulating the many users.
