Re: Manual Testing

test oracle is a source for determining expected values to compare with the actual values for the application under test,an oracle may be anything like an existing system (bench mark) usermanual or an individual with specialized knowledge

Re: Manual Testing

Hai,

we usually determine the expected values for a testcase, for any application before testing the application right?so in that process of determining expected values a test oracle can help i.e test oracle may be a person with specialized knowledge in that application under test, or it may be a user manual from which we can understand the behaviour of application and determine the expected values.

Re: Manual Testing

Raghu ram84,

Probably you are confused with the work "Oracle". If you refer an online dictionary, this is the meaning of the word -

oracle (plural oracles)

1. A shrine dedicated to some prophetic deity.
2. A person such as a priest through whom the deity is supposed to respond with prophecy or advice.
3. A prophetic response, often enigmatic or allegorical, so given.
4. A person considered to be a source of wisdom.
5. A software company specializing in database software

Synonyms

* (priest acting as conduit of prophecy): prophet
* (person who is a source of wisdom): expert

Now if you go through Ramraju's explanation, it will make you sense.

Thanks,
Krishna

Simplest way oracle means predictions, hope so you know that. Now By using test oracle we can predicts the input values for the data, this helps in solving complex problems.
