Red face Why Domain knowledge is important in software testing?

Is domain knowledge is important to get the job in testing or to work on testing project?

Answer is yes.

See the article on why domain experts are most wanted in testing jobs?

Tester need to have
testing skill,
domain skill and
technical skill

Without these skills you are not the expert in testing.

Re: Why Domain knowledge is important in software testing?

it was an interesting article. Generally in IT field, where domian like BFSI forums have to expertise. It is very important that if a tester has entered into banking project with out the knowledge of banking and financial services it is very hard to survive .
i am just adding this point just to know what is going on in market "App labs which is one of the best independent testing services is yet to enter into the banking and financial services (testing)"

Re: Why Domain knowledge is important in software testing?

Testers require domain knowledge and have to be at least as skilled as an expert user, not only as a novice one. What's an expert user depends on the product, e.g. a network management program has to be tested by people that know the daily business of and have similar skills like a network administrator.
